Last Year, on April 17, 2010, Hayah International Academy hosted a full day event where participants walked and ran an average distance of 6 KM (15 laps in the school's running track) which is the average distance women and children in developing countries need to walk to reach water. Attendees walked, ran or pledged a donation for runners and walkers.
Throughout the day over 800 people came and the turnout was able to raise 100,000 Egyptian pounds. This money has been divided three ways. The first part has been used to connect clean water to villages in Alexandria. The second part is to be placed in projects underway in Upper Egypt. The third part will be added to and used in the projects to clean the Nile.
